This new level of phone integration can be found in fourteen Chevrolet models. It offers drivers the ability to use smartphone apps through the Chevrolet MyLink display touch-screen or by voice command via Siri. With the ability to access texts, stream music, view maps, navigation and more, new Chevy owners can stay connected and safe easily. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are both engineered to display the features drivers rely on most. Apple CarPlay allows for driver selected iPhone features and applications to be displayed on and utilized through the MyLink screen or voice command.

How to Set Up Android Auto:. Get started by either downloading the Android Auto app to your phone or simply connect the phone with a USB cable to the port and follow the prompts for downloading the app. The phone's screen will need to be unlocked and a review and agreement with the Terms and Conditions will need to be completed before set up can be initiated. A prompt asking you to update apps like Google Maps may appear if so, update apps as directed.

Next, turn on notifications and Bluetooth access. Touch Accept to turn on notifications to enable calendar events, incoming calls and messages to be seen on the display panel.

Once Android Auto has been installed you will be able to activate it by simply touching the Android Auto icon on the display screen. This can be done by pressing and holding the Home button on your iPhone until Siri appears on the display screen or by pressing and holding the Voice Control button on the steering wheel.

After installation you will be able to activate Apple CarPlay by simply touching the icon on the display screen. I've even programmed in names and numbers into the Sonic while driving with no issues and they work spotlessly when called upon via the voice recognition.

If you can use your phone's voice control interface you might find that useful as well. I can access Siri on my iPhone by saying "voice" and use her to do lots of things, including dialing numbers in my phone's contact list that aren't stored in the car's phone book. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, or have something incorrectly set up on my phone.

I stored a few numbers in my car's phone book that feature works alright but I have questions about it. The problem I'm having is accessing my iPhone 4 contact list. I have not been successful bringing up my phone's contact list into the stereo when using the command "phone book". When I say "phone book", the car will repeat a few digits like "" or "". Also, the Sonic's Owners Manual reads "The system can store up to 30 phone numbers as name tags in the Hands-Free Directory that is shared between the Bluetooth and OnStar systems" I'm curious what happens to the 30 phone numbers if I discontinue my OnStar subscription once the free 6 month period expires.

Also, is this feature for car owners who have purchased "OnStar phone minutes", or does that matter? I guess what I would really like to do but have been unsuccessful is make phone calls using my phones contact list without having to store them in the car especially if this feature is shared with OnStar.View Full Version : Problems with dialing using voice command and also changing source for music. I did a search on this and didn't see anything. I'm having a problem with dialing my bluetooth connected iPhone using voice command.

What I appear to get is a call being made although, since it doesn't show up in my recent calls list, I doubt that is happeningfollowed by a disconnect after around seconds. The other thing that happens is that after any call incoming or outgoing, voice command or not, including when voice command failsthe system automatically switches to music from the iPhone, no matter what source I had been listening to before - radio or usb drive is what I usually listen to.

Anybody else have this issue? Is there a known fix? I am having the same problem. It was working perfectly a few months ago. Make me think it was an iPhone upgrade that messed everything up. Have you tried unparing and reparing the phone to see if that corrects the problem?

I'm not sure I understand the first issue you have, but the one where a call ends and your iphone starts playing music is a known problem with iOS starting with 9. You didn't not say, but as your signature says a Volt, I assume you are using CarPlay. My understanding is that CarPlay does not work with Bluetooth yet. I like it because it charges as well You might try it plugged in to one of the 2 USB plugs in the front of the center console.

I found a Lightning cable that is 1 foot long, so it works without a lot of extra cord hanging all over. I will assume that you press the voice command long enough for Siri to answer.

chevy mylink voice command not working

A short push will activate the MyLink voice recognition. This does not work well for me, and does NOT as far as I know work with any information stored on the iPhone. The length of the press I think is somewhat longer than 2 seconds for Siri.

You know you got Siri by the response showing up on the center screen. Siri should know your contacts and recent calls. Alternately, while in CarPlay, pushing the green Phone icon will get a response from Siri. Or you can push the 'contacts' right arrow, and get a list showing 'favorites', 'recent', 'keypad', and 'voicemail'.

Using the Siri, voice calling, I get better results. I have had the Maps program running, listening to a radio station, and get audio directions from Siri, and then go back to the radio input, not local to the iPhone music.

How to Set Up Android Auto or Apple CarPlay in Your Chevy

Sorry for the novella, as you probably know most of this, but I am adding as much detail as I can for others who might be new to CarPlay. Oh, and the play music from phone is not just on Volts. I think it is a MyLink problem. Hope this helps. That may be it. I think it started after updating to iOS 9. Roy Thanks for this detailed reply, Roy and I didn't know most of what you wrote, so it was useful.

I'm actually not using CarPlay - just a straight bluetooth connection I prefer to keep my phone in my pocket so that I don't leave it in the car.

I also don't use Siri.

Here Are The Chevy MyLink Voice Commands You’ll Ever Need

However, I just tried opening the phone app on the infotainment screen, and voice command seems to work from there, using the icon on the bottom left of that infotainment screen based on 2 tries.

Call me old-fashioned I have a little residual Luddite in mebut I would prefer to just use the steering wheel button and keep my eyes on the road. Mind you, now you've got me curious about CarPlay. The crushing disappointment of MyLink voice command feature. Share Share this post on Digg Del. I think it's a galaxy issue. Seems there are other threads regarding Galaxy. I use iPhone 5 and it works fine. The only issue I have is Bluetooth dropping and reconnecting.

Taking to dealer soon to get that resolved, I hope. I was under the impression that there really isn't much in the way of voice recognition functionality built into this particular low-end MyLink unit I know the the only voice command stuff mine is capable of is all handled by Siri on the iphone. MyLink just passes it through.

I don't have the latest and greatest version though. Thanks for your replies guys. I had no idea my version of MyLink wasn't the latest and greatest!! Do you mean there is a further upgrade on the MyLink systems in the Sonic, or are you comparing it to the systems in other Chevy cars?

My Sonic is a and I believe was built in March of this year, so I'm hoping it's up to date The thing with the Samsung Galaxy S4 is interesting. It's one of the most popular phones on the planet, so not to have that functionality is pretty bizarre. I'll test out my new iphone tomorrow and will let you know how it goes. Just overall, the confusion with all the MyLink products out there, and not being clear which functionality yours has The marketing making it appear as if the Sonic version would have the voice command functionality, and then finding out that's false - that's just not right.

It's false advertising, in my opinion, and it needs to be fixed asap. Like, what is this?? My expectation was that the system would work similarly to this video. Interestingly, it says that it's a Sonic, but the steering wheel looks different.

Or this Hi pomanu I am glad that you like your Sonic but I am sorry that you have this issue with your MyLink. Have you checked to see if you have the latest software?

If not you can call our Infotainment Team. Thy should be able to walk you through any set up needed and answer any questions that you have. Please let me know if they are helpful to you. Each time they have updated the software, rebooted the system and each time I have had to re-enter all my saved data. I depend heavily on my GPS to tell me how long it will take to get from one place to another as I am a bit of a road warrior calling on the same clients every month but in a different order.

Here are my systems. The Address Entry button stops working.

The Go Home button stops working. The Addresses Book button stops working. The Point of Interest "by name" stops working. It says it's paired to my phone but the link stops working.

The graphics on the "leaf" button showing the propulsion system and it's function stops working. The voice command feature stops working.

It takes a long time for the Nav system to boot up. The screen can freeze at any number of different times. Usually just about the time I have re-entered all my data "again. GM has brought out their top engineers, Galen to work on this and claim each time that it will be fixed because others in the country with the same problem have had theirs fixed with these solutions.

However I have not found anyone on this forum with this problem so I think they are full of it. I really like my car otherwise though it is very hard to like it with these problems. I think my problem is very rare and I think they need to put me into a new car ASAP since they clearly have no idea how to fix this recurring problem. Any suggestions on how I should proceed?

Anyone else have this problem. Anyone else have this problem  What changes? For GM engineers to be involved I assume here is a more complete backstory posted in another thread Anyone else have this problem Afternoon Rick, Have you contacted your Dedicated Advisor with these concerns?

I have contacted everyone possible. Galen in Denver has worked on it several times. It is now the end of Aug and I still have the same problem.

Been driving around with an old Garmin GPS on the dash. Friday it gets an entire new radio hardware system in hopes it is actually hardware and not software which they have given up on fixing. If this does not work they have approved me for a "buy back" but since I have over miles it's going to cost me to sell it back.

I want to keep the car or buy another Volt but am unsure if the problem will reoccur. My fear is that it is because of the combination of custom user settings I have programed using the configuration button. Some odd combination of settings that only I have set. Though that sounds like a far fetched idea also.

I ask because I saw on the Sync system it does it so like ex: Im hungry then it directs you to the point of interest or something like that. Useful to stop it interfering with a heads up display. When I press the button on the steering wheel to voice a command it never beeps. How can I fix that? I wish that Chevy would put your list in the user manual for their vehicles!

It would make learning the MyLink system so much easier.

You have helped many by publishing this. A very helpful document. My call button worked for about 5 months then stopped all of the sudden. How do we get out of Onstar and place a phone call?

Cannot find any Onstar buttons. If it one day data!! Does anyone knows what that could be. Dealer has been looking at it for two days with no results. Any hints on how to correct this. First, you may want to review how to pair with your car! Some of the most frequent customer feedback we hear concerns syncing Android contacts. While the phone itself pairs, the user cannot access contacts. No names or numbers…or numbers but no names. What gives? Phone pairs perfectly, yet contacts and numbers cannot be accessed.

Is your phone already paired? No need to worry! Simply delete the vehicle from the list of paired devices on your phone, delete the phone from your list of paired devices in your vehicle and RE-PAIR your phone!

Unlike Apple products, many Android devices will prompt a request for various accesses once pairing is complete. Like Android users, many Apple users also voice concerns that their vehicle cannot access their contacts!

The phone is paired but the vehicle seems unable to access contacts. The solution is easy! Then switch the vehicle back on and select your phone from the list of connected devices! You should be all set! Are you still experiencing problems with the Bluetooth sync between your phone and vehicle? Even if your bluetooth is not working there is still one tried and tested action…Delete, Delete, Re-Pair! Often times it is easier to simply remove the Bluetooth connection entirely and re-pair, rather than trying to diagnose an issue while paired.

Hop onto your phone, switch Bluetooth on, wait up to 30 seconds for the vehicle to appear in the list! Then Follow the prompts!
